Civil-rights strategist and author of Cultural Containment

America keeps winning equality on paper and losing it in practice. My work asks why, and what it would take to make the wins hold.

I write, speak and advise on civil rights, democracy and the institutions that decide whether promises of equality become real.

My book, Cultural Containment: Equity, Resistance, and the Architecture of American Democracy, shows how institutions acknowledge demands for equity and then quietly limit what those demands can change.

It proposes a new civil-rights law, Title XII of the Civil Rights Act, built on four duties: to know what institutional systems produce, to assess serious disparities, to explain them, and to correct what can't be justified.

No quotas. No guaranteed outcomes. Just an obligation to answer.

The pen versus the fist

When I was eight, someone wrote a racial slur about me on my third-grade chalkboard. My teacher let it stay. My fists changed nothing. A letter to the school board, written in my own hand with my father's pen, got the board wiped clean.

I have spent my career in the rooms that classroom grew into: government offices, boardrooms, executive suites. I have seen how often a commitment survives in language while the authority behind it quietly leaves the room.

My work is about the letter, and making sure it has somewhere to go.
